Prepare to succeed or prepare to fail

As in life, to be the best you have to prepare and if you do not prepare then you will fail. To be the best you can be, you have to work hard and develop your abilities equally and there is no better way to do that than with a kettlebell.

As I am sure a lot of you will know, a kettlebell is like a cannonball but with a handle and is an ancient eastern European training tool. However unlike other training tools, the kettlebell is very unique because of its versatility.

In sport there are three key areas that will make you a winner and massively improve your performance. These are Limit Strength, which is your ability to generate musculoskeletal force for an all out effort and this is the basis of all athletic activity. Speed Strength, which is how quickly you can apply your strength in an athletic situation and as we all know, speed kills! Finally Strength endurance, which is your ability to continually repeat a movement and if this is lacking, unless you get a tap out or a KO you’re going to get in trouble.

When training you must ensure you are equally developing all your athletic qualities and what better way to do this, than with the most athletic exercises at your disposal, the Snatch and Clean. These movements develop the posterior chain and recruit your high threshold motor units, which are responsible for producing strength and power and when completed with Kettlebells they are even better!

Due to the large handle and awkward shape of a kettlebell they are the perfect tools for developing functional strength focusing on improving your grip and core strength to a higher level, which directly carries over to your sporting performance.

Also another benefit of a kettlebell is application, as they can be used to develop each key quality.

For Limit Strength – Heavy Kettlebells for 3-5 sets of 3-5 reps

For Speed Strength – Medium weight Kettlebells concentrating on being explosive

For Strength Endurance Lighter Kettlebells for 3 x 15 – 25 reps

When using the above approach ensure you use the Snatch, Clean & Jerk/Press or Bottom up Press (If you want to develop and awesome Grip)! To achieve the best results. Utilising this approach means you have all the bases covered so you will perform like a machine and combining kettlebells with roadwork and sparring you are preparing to succeed.

As you well know, we can train our bodies strong and fit, but we can only eat ourselves healthy. The entire human body is made from foods, water, air and these are the primary determinants of human health.

I’ll put it this way. You have two punch bags, both the same size and both the same weight. However, one is filled full of shit, the other is densely packed with rock hard, muscle, sinew, tendons and bone. Which one will be easier to hit? It’s the same with an opponent, which one will take and give a kick or a punch better? And which fighter are you?

To function optimally as an athlete you must fulfil your daily requirements by taking around 50 essential nutrients and these can only be obtained from our environment, from our diet. Essential fatty acids (EFA’s), linoleic acid and Alpha-linolenic acid fall into this category. Not the saturated fats found in junk foods, but the essential fats that we require to live.

These are named Omega oils, Omega 3, 6 and 9 essential fatty acids. These Omega oils, found in Udo’s oil, are essential for energy production, regulation of cell functions, healing of tissue injuries, sprains and bruises. Essential fats increase metabolic rate, increase stamina, and substantially shorten the time required for fatigued muscles to recover after exercise, facilitate the conversion of lactic acid into water and carbon dioxide and reduce inflammation. All of which help you perform at your best. Udo’s can enable you to fight longer and recover quicker. When dieting to make weight Udo’s oil helps adipose fat loss as well as ridding excess water held in tissues.

Udo’s oil also curbs cravings when dieting and the essential fatty acids in Udo’s oil lower the glycemic index of foods, making them lower carb, keeping insulin levels more constant avoiding fat storing insulin spikes.

The EFA’s in Udo’s oil play important functions in brain cells, nerve endings, sense organs, adrenal glands, sex glands and all cells. Some are used to make prostaglandins, which have hormone like functions. Clearly, these fats are essential to our health.

Consider the stresses you put your mind and body through as an athlete. You are not operating like a normal human you are driving your body to be super-human. Consuming Essential Superfoods such as Udo’s oil is required to be the best you can be.
